Registration NOW open for the 88 Creative Keys “unconference”

Balance.

Have you found it?

To improve ear skills, it takes time away from building sight-reading skills.

To market your studio, it takes time away from lesson planning.

To teach in groups, it leaves less time for one-on-one instruction.

Is it possible to find the perfect balance?

You can’t do everything at once, so finding balance means temporarily shifting priorities, making trade-offs. It’s all about give and take.

In reality, most of us will always be “off balance on purpose.” We must stretch ourselves in new directions to grow as musicians, teachers, business owners and human beings.

Not sure where I’m going with this? Take the time to watch Dan Thurmon’s TED talk where he explores how important it is to live off balance on purpose.

“If we want to grow beyond our abilities, we have to transcend beyond our current patterns.”

“We must be off balance to learn.”

“We can reach beyond our current levels of excellence. In order to do that we don’t have to be on balance, we have to embrace uncertainties with clear objectives.”

– Dan Thurmon

What does off balance look like for a piano teacher?

At our next 88 Creative Keys Summer workshop, Bradley Sowash and I are teaming up with Samantha Coates and Thomas Hoops. The dynamic, four-day experience will tug and pull at your center and challenge you to reach beyond your current skills and thought patterns.

  • Swing from sessions on building ear skills to sessions on developing better reading and performing skills.
  • Move off the bench to master new skills on the bench.
  • Engage in stimulating conversations that may sway the direction of your business or validate your current status.
  • Develop creative skills from the page so you can build more skills off the page.

Our goal is to provide you with activities, sessions, patterns and experiences that

  • challenge
  • energize
  • equalize
  • revitalize

your skill set as an innovative teacher, musician and business owner.

RENEW your sense of balance as a professional musician and teacher.

Balance that is first and foremost centered around

creativity and teaching creatively.
